Caring for Silk, Lace & Linen: A Simple Guide

Natural fabrics reward a little patience. Here's how to keep your silk, lace, and linen pieces soft and true to shape for years, not just one season.
Silk
Hand wash in cool water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, or use the delicate cycle inside a mesh bag. Skip the wringing — press water out gently instead. Dry flat, away from direct sun, which can fade the color over time.
Lace
Lace is more delicate than it looks. Hand wash only, cool water, and never twist or wring. Lay flat on a towel to dry, gently reshaping the piece while it's still damp.
Linen
Linen is the most forgiving of the three. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, and either line dry or tumble dry on low. A slightly wrinkled linen piece is part of the fabric's character, not a flaw — but if you prefer a crisper look, iron while still slightly damp.
General rules
Always check the care label sewn into each piece before washing. Avoid direct heat and harsh detergents across all three fabrics, and store on padded hangers rather than folded, so delicate necklines and sleeves keep their shape.
